In 1982, Lyn Lange was the first player from Toowoomba to represent Queensland in the State Open Team. On the right is an image of Lyn in the State Team (Lyn is second from the left in the back row). Lyn was part of a strong team, that year Queensland won the National Championships. She also paved the way for other Toowoomba players like Sue Bubeck and Gayle Schneider who played for the State Team during the 1980s.
In 1984, another player from Toowoomba was involved in a successful National Championship for Queensland. Sue Bubeck made the State Team four consecutive years in a row beginning in 1983. In her second year of playing for the State Open Team, Queensland won the National Championship. The winning team finished as the only unbeaten team and is pictured on the right (Sue is third from the left in the back row).
During the 1980s Toowoomba hosted the State Championship twice, once in 1983 and again in 1988.
