Such was the interest in women’s football during the late 1970s, the 1980 State Championships were held in Mt Isa – the town even fielded a reserve team with Lynn Carey, a nippy winger, playing on the right side. Lynn estimates there was a period of around five years of steady regular competition until around 1981. When economic and industrial changes saw drastic changes to the town’s population.
Like many young people who grew up in the Isa, Lynn moved to Townsville in 1982 where she played the Estates side for a single season.
