REPRESENTING QLD AND AUSTRALIA
Albert E (‘Bert’) Murray played for Latrobe Soccer club from around 1923 until his retirement. He also represented Queensland in many capacities, first as captain of the Queensland junior (likely under 20) team in 1922 and then as captain of of Queensland team for many years, including vs the England Amateur team in 1937. Bert also represented Australia in the Australia v England FA XI match at the Brisbane Exhibition ground in 1925, before 30,000 spectators (a ‘B’ International, but later played some ‘A’ international matches — he is designated Socceroo #54). He retired around 1940 when in his late 30s.
